Bobby Perry i Four School Districts to Vote On East Wake Consolidation ! , Voters in the Rolesville, Knight - ! dale, Wendell, and Wakelon areas j will get their chance to ballot on I the matter of consolidation of their i schools, members of the Wake County delegation to the General Assembly said Tuesday. Senator John Jordan and Repre sentative Thomas D. Bunn ex pressed themselves as favoring bringing the issue to a vote, de scribing it as “the logical answer” to the consolidation problem. Under the proposed vote, any school district voting against con solidation would be excluded from the consolidation. The ballot on school consolida tion was approved Monday by the Wake County Board of Education in a 3-1 vote after Ferd Davis, broad member from Zebulon, made a motion that the election be held. Mrs. John Q. Adams of Willow Springs seconded the motion, and Willis Satterwhite of Wake Forest voted in favor of the motion with Mrs. Adams and Davis after it was amended to provide that all four areas would take part in the elec tion. Henry Adams of Cary voted against the motion. Davis had told Wake County voters during his campaign for the Board of Education last year that he favored letting the people vote on major consolidation matters, making his statement on several occasions including the meeting of the Raleigh League of Women Voters. Action of the Wake County Board of Education met with gen eral approval here, with apprecia tion being expressed particularly to Mr. Satterwhite and Mrs. Ad ams for their part in allowing the electorate to manifest its wishes directly. The law suit against the Board of Education filed last Friday to keep Wakelon School out of the pro posed consolidation would pre sumably be settled by the election. The suit, asking for an injunction against the consolidation, named Fred Smith and four members of the present board as defendants together with C. V. Whitley, form er chairman. The suit was filed Friday after noon, and papers requiring Mr. Whitley to appear in Wake County Superior Court April 10 for an adverse examination were served on him Monday morning about 9:30. Davis was sworn in as a new member at 10:30 by J. Russell Nipper, Clerk of Superior Court. Other business conducted at the meeting included election of Harry Stewart of Raleigh as board chair man, reelection of Fred Smith of Zebulon as county superintendent of schools, and reelection of Aaron Fussell and Tom Grimes as assist ant county superintendents.
